History of the Glenview Farmer's Market

The Glenview Farmer's Market was started in 1988 by the Glenview Women of Today (GWT) as a way of supporting locally grown produce and to provide the community with a healthy (and fun) option for food.  Every Saturday, farmers, flower growers, and residents would gather at Jackman Park to share the good times. In 2007, GWT was pleased to hand over the reins to the Glenview Park District.

The most natural place to hold a farmer's market was at a farm, so the Park District chose to move the market to Historic Wagner Farm.  Visibility of the market and customer parking were two major concerns voiced by the vendors at the time, and the change in location addressed both of those issues.  Families are welcome to spend time on the farm visiting our animals, wandering through the restored farmhouse or visitors center, checking out the equipment, or enjoying some of their fresh market produce.

Our mission is to enhance and strengthen community and sustainable lifestyles through education and support of local farmers and artisans.

Why are we unique?

We are one of the few markets in the area that features artisan crafts on a regular basis.  Yet, our focus remains on the small scale producers who provide high quality, nutritious products.

New for 2009 is our "Green Table".  This table will be staffed each week with local experts who will provide education about sustainable living.  See our schedule for more information.

Our location across from Wagner Farm provides wonderful opportunities to learn about our agricultural history.  If you need to make a quick stop at the market though, and don't have time to spend at the farm, the large paved parking area makes it easy to run in and out.

Our vendors are very supportive of the Northfield Food Pantry, making weekly donations of their fresh produce.

The Chef's Table features local chefs doing cooking demonstrations using produce purchased at the market.  Stop by, and you'll learn new ways to prepare your seasonal foods!

Hours, Location, Parking

The market will be held on Saturdays, 8 am until 12 noon, from June 27th until October 10th.

We are located at Historic Wagner Farm, at 1510 Wagner Road in Glenview.

We strongly encourage you to park in the lot at Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, which is accessible by either Lake Avenue or Wagner Road.  Although there is a small lot adjacent to the vendor spaces, it can become very congested, and we do not recommend parking here.  If you do park in this lot, please be very careful that you do not block the drive-through space, which adds to the congestion and frustration for all shoppers.

Stay in touch!

One of the things we hope to do in 2009 is send an email each week to notify you of what products to expect, as well as any community groups, entertainers, or chefs that will be featured.  If you are interested in receiving this weekly email, send us your name and email address!  We will only use your email for sending these market communications, and will not sell or give your information to anyone else.  We mean it.
